~ homemade: salt & pepper shakers part II ~

So picking up from where we left off on my last post (below)...here are some more ideas!  You could use them as favors with their lids attached.  For couples I would give them matching ones at their place settings, and they would have a new set of S & P shakers...

Or as place cards at each seat.  Just add a card with a name and tie it on or place between the shaker and lid (which I did not do here)...

Or as escort cards...each table is a specific flower, and just add little sticks with your guests names attached (which I did not do here)...

Or to hold other items, such as little ribbon flags...

Really the options are endless!  They can be filled with just about anything - like roses and ferns...

Or placed on wood rounds for a rustic feel...

Or even under a cloche...

***A couple of things to keep in mind are you want to make sure the lids screw off from the top (that's obvious I know, but not all do).  Also, watch the proportions!  Flower selection can be kind of tricky, as you don't want anything too big that will dwarf the 6 inch or so shaker.  Lastly, some openings on the shakers are small and you can only fit in a couple branches.  For example, the cloche above is very large, as is my grandma's crystal salt and pepper shaker so I chose a flower that branched out and up to fill the space...but the shaker has a large opening which allowed me to but lots of branches in...so it all works and the proportions look good.  Other than that - shakers are very easy to find whether old, new or borrowed (just take pictures so you know whose is who and the tops that match!), and offer countless options.  Me likey...do you?

One last thing...these really look great in the home too...on a window sill, bathroom counter, on the nightstand, etc... Enjoy!
