~ a vintage holiday on a realistic wedding ~

My "Vintage Holiday" photo shoot is featured on Claire's fabulous and inspiring blog, A Realistic Wedding today.  I was estatic when Claire asked me to take part in her idea! What idea is that you ask?  Well in Claire's own words:

"At the end of October, after seeing an endless series of AMAZING holiday photo shoots, I got an idea. A big idea that I knew I needed help to execute. That’s where Sofia & Andre from Brancoprata and Kristi from Luna and Chloe Weddings came in. My idea? Why, the very namesake of this article. I had an idea to create a very merry and magical Christmas photo shoot and I wanted Sofia & Kristi to take a spin at creating two gorgeous, but different, recreations of this simple and broad idea. I gave them a few suggestions to get them started then let the artists free to create what is, surely, the most gorgeous Christmas shoots ever."

~ flowers of the week: 12.20.10 ~

Good Monday morning my dears!  Did everyone have a lovely weekend?  I arrived back home yesterday, and I am in a happy-sad kind of mood.  I am SO happy to be home, yet SO sad to have left my family in Florida!  I do have to tell you that Mr. Big's kids surprised me with welcome home posters around the entryway.  Let me tell you, I was just over the moon.  How totally sweet are they?  Such a fabulous thing to come home too!!! 143!

I can't believe this is Christmas week!  Oh my - I am WAY behind schedule.  However, I thought that these flowers are quite fitting for Christmas week...

Winter branches with pinecones in a silver vase - love it! Perfect for a winter wedding, or holiday decor.  Simple and elegant are so my style.

I am hoping to get back into the swing of things very soon!  Have an easy but unique Tuesday Thought coming up this week, as well as the table decor from my linen and lace photoshoot for my Thursday Homemade post.  I feel like I have missed out on so much the past week and a half.  Have lots to catch up on!

I adore the fact that both of these are pink and white, but reversed on each one!  And who doesn't love a fabulous thank you for coming to the wedding?  I know I do.  Such the perfect little detail I think.

~ the birthday girl ~

Just had to share a picture of my niece, Madi.  She turned 4 today!  Happy Birthday babygirl.  Auntie Sissy loves you to the moon and back!!!!

~ homemade: linen and lace raffle ~

Good morning my dears!  I can't believe that it is Thursday already - this week is just flying by.  Before I know it I will be on a plane back to California!  But today is special, as it is Madi's 4th birthday and we are going to Disney World to celebrate!  

Anyway, continuing on from where I left off last week with my Linen and Lace photoshoot - I thought I would share with you something special that I always do at big events...a raffle!  Seems kind of funny to do at a wedding, but it was/is my way of thanking my guests for coming.  I did this at my engagement party, bridal shower, and wedding!  Let me tell you it was an enormous hit, got everyone involved, and people were just hoping that their number would be called.  So of course I had to set up an area at my linen and lace photoshoot that included a raffle!  So here it is...

I love the vintage baking tin that holds the Queen Anne's Lace above, and the mason jar below.

Of course I wanted to come up with a unique way to do the raffle instead of just handing people tickets.  At my wedding I hid the tickets in crackers (the kind that you pull apart that pop) that I made.  I had them handed out just after dinner and the guests all opened them at once with a big pop.  There was lots of laughter when they found out what was inside, and they were so excited.  It was so quite as we started calling out numbers that you could hear a pin drop!  So for this shot I used pages from the vintage book I had.  On each clothespin I put a different page number...

I like the idea of putting the numbers on clothespins as they are easily clipped on to something so your guests can't lose.  Below are just some extra decorations for the raffle table...

Since I used the drawers for the escort area, I just used a tension bar to hold a vintage linen to cover the empty space on the buffet.  Oh did I mention that this buffet was free?  Yep, picked up off the corner on my way to work!  Gotta love that, right?

...you can't serve your appetizers in a unique way!

What a creative and clever way to serve up appetizers.  I love the simplicity of the nails in the wood.  Fabulous way to serve up appetizers don't you think?  And it's something that I am sure someone you know can make for you.  If this style doesn't quite fit yours, just stain or paint the wood a different color...a warm weathered white would work perfect for a vintage or beachy soiree, or paint the wood silver or gold to glam them up, or paint them a color that you are using at your event!  Lots of ways to be creative here.

~ tuesday thought: light covers ~

Yay for Tuesday!  Let me tell you - it is FREEZING here in Florida.  I'm talking high of 52 and a low in the upper 20's.  I thought it was supposed to be warm here!   Today grandma and I are watching my nephew, baby Riley.  Let me tell you - he is the cutest redheaded baby I ever did see! 

 Anyhow...remember last week I talked about using lampshades for boosters?  If you missed it, you can see it right here.  And I also told you that this week I was doing a spin off of that...using light covers.  I have to preface though that the pictures are not that great, nor is the styling as I was in a hurry to get this done the night before I had to leave for Florida...which I had to get up at 3:40 a.m. in order to make my flight!  So with that said, I will get on with it.  Glass light covers come in a huge variety of colors, styles and shapes - red, yellow, blue, black, etc...the options are endless.

Below, are $1.97 light covers from Home Depot.  Which could be used in a variety of ways.  One being as a base for small for a plate or small cake, but they also would look cute filled with a variety of things and used as decoration.

So there you have it - using light covers as boosters.  I will tell you that the wider the base the more stable it will be.  But by adding some glue to the tops of the glass, and to the bottom of the plates it will secure them.

~ flowers of the week: 12.13.10 ~

Happy Monday my dears from Florida!  Well I can say that my niece's 4th birthday party was a huge success.  My sister worked so hard on so many details, I was just thrilled to be here to see them all.  The enormous smile on my niece's face when she saw all the decorations was absolutely priceless!  And I have to tell you that as we were putting the finishing details on things, my niece walked up to me and said:  "Auntie Sissy thank you for being here and helping with my party.  I love you."  I still get tears in my eyes thinking about it!  I just love her to the moon and back!!!! Okay enough sappy Auntie out of me.  I did,  however, take a handful of pictures.  Hopefully I will be able to get them uploaded soon so I can share with you...maybe Wednesday.

This week I choose a wonderful boquet for the ~ Flowers of the Week ~.  I am crazy about maidenhair ferns, if you don't already know, and so this was an easy choice this week...

A lush bouquet that isn't formal - my fave.  Also, you know how I just LOVE details.  Well this brooch and ribbon detail are just fabulous, don't you think?

~ homemade: linen and laces dessert table ~

Well I finally made it to Florida despite the emergency landing in New Mexico!  Wow, what a trip it was.  I have never been so happy to finally arrive at my destination as I was last night - granted it was 3 hours later than planned, but I made it. If you are wondering what the heck I am talking about you can see right here.  Thank you Angela at Swatchbook Weddings for sending me the link.  Mwah!  And thank you everyone for your well wishes and concern.  I was very touched. 


Okay so on with this week's homemade post.  I told you last week that I did a photoshoot back in May, and never did anything with it.  Last week I showed you the escort area for the photoshoot, and this week I am going to show you the dessert area.  I set up the dessert bar on a vintage ironing board, and used vintage linens to decorate the tops of the jars.  Also, a flower frog is the perfect spot to hold a sign and some star lollipops.  And I thought that Queen Anne's lace was so fitting for this photoshoot...

This is when I created the booster that you have seen before with vintage book pages.  The mini cupcakes are all adorned with words from the book.  On top "Epilogue" stands above the rest...but there is also "will you marry me?" and "yes" from the book too!  All attached onto small wooden sticks with  mini clothespins.

So there you have it - a vintage linen and lace dessert area!  Next week I will share with you a special area that is something I do for all big events that I host.  Trust me - you won't want to miss it!  Hope you're having a wonderful Thursday!  I am - in Florida ;-)

I am over the moon about both of these!  I can imagine both of them filled with pretty blooms, can't you? And that pop over pan would be adorable on a dessert table...and in about 10 other ways I can think of using.
