Handcrafted: Inspired Collective Display No. 1

Hip hip hooray for Thursday loves!  I know I am doing this a bit backwards around here today...usually my 'Handcrafted' post goes up at 10 am, and another post goes up in the wee hours of the morning ;-)  But I wanted to mix things up a bit...gotta keep you on your toes...hehe!  I am posting my 'Handcrafted' post now, and will do another post for 10 am...so check back later too ;-)

So I have good news, and not so good news ;-(  Let's get the not so good news outta the way so we can focus on the good, okay?  The not so good news is that, yet again, I did not get items into my Luna and Chloe Handcrafted Etsy store...boo.  My schedule has just been so busy, and as it's almost 3 am - yep it is...I just don't have it in me to do it...so it is gonna have to wait another week.  So sorry!  I can tell you that it's glittery goodness you're not gonna wanna miss ;-)

And on to the GOOD NEWS now.  My vintage rentals business, Over The Moon Vintage Rentals, is a vendor in Allison's (of Engaged & Inspired) Inspired Collective shop that just opened on Tuesday - YIPPEE!!!

I have a display area for my items that I will be styling every two weeks or so...and I just styled my first display yesterday!  So every two weeks or so, I will be changing my display area - which means every two weeks I will be sharing my new display area with you!  YAY - a mini photo shoot every two weeks.  Now that makes me an oh so happy girl ;-)

So without further ado...I am going to share one picture with you here, and then have you head on over to OTMVRs' blog (you can click on the picture below to get there) for lots more pictures.  Sound like a good plan?  Well here is the picture for you...

Picture Perfect Palette No. 7

Yes, it's official...as determined on my previous post today - I'm on a nautical kick!  So I am going to continue on that kick today with a beach inspired Picture Perfect Palette.

And I know it has been a while since my last PPP post, so I am hoping that this one makes up for it!  So without further ado, here is PPP No. 7...
Picture Perfect Palette No. 7
Such a pretty and calm palette.  Tell me my previous 'Darling Detail' post of the compass escort cards wouldn't be perfect with this palette?  Oh, I think it works perfectly...
Picture Perfect Palette
And while I know this palette is too bland or blah for most people (however, I do LOVE it), it is a wonderful base for a color palette.  By adding just one color to this palette, whether it be orange, green, yellow, etc...you can create a bunch of fabulous events.

So let's just jump right into this first example of this palette, shall we?  First up is some gorgeous outdoor event inspiration.  Have a look-see at the fabulous curtains...
Picture Perfect Palette
I love how the venue fits into this palette - from the sand/dirt floor to the fabulous walls.  And by the addition of some gorgeous material set against the beige linen, it makes for quite a gorgeous backdrop.  Carrying the color of the material over to the dessert table, it still keeps in line with the color palette.  Don't the desserts fit perfectly with the palette as well?

Up next is this homespun, homemade, vintage table...
Picture Perfect Palette
I ADORE the look and feel of this decor.  And look what the addition of just a hint of orange to this palette can create.  Amazing, no?

And moving on from a homespun, vintage style - lets go to the other end of the spectrum with some elegant winter inspired decor.  Here the addition of deep, rich green is brought in, however, still in small batches...
Picture Perfect Palette
Eeks - I love the way it's used here too!  Just picture charcoal linens, white plates, clear glass vases in a variety of sizes filled with white feathers as centerpieces.  A couple of painted pine cones (a beigy metallic is what I am picturing) and greenery on the table mixed among the vase(s) on the table would add a natural but elegant look.  Lots of candles on the table would complete the look.  Yet, some silky ribbon (possibly tied around the napkin or wrapped around a menu card) in a deep, rich color would be a fabulous addition as well.  Do you see it?  Fabulous, no?

Ahh, so there you have it my dears - a Picture Perfect Palette!  Hmm - that's one palette used four different ways, if you include the beach/compass inspiration...always amazing to see how you can incorporate it into any style of event.  Goodness, I love doing these posts; hope you love them as well.  Here's to a lovely weekend - may it be as fabulous as you!  I'll see you Sunday.

Who Says

...you can't wear a sailfish necklace on your wedding day?
Who Says
I mean really...just have a look-see at how darling this little guy is...
Who Says
He looks so happy, no?  Maybe because he is all blinged out ;-)  And did you notice the rope hook at the back?  One of those darling details that I love.  Wouldn't this be the perfect necklace to wear for a boat, beach or tropical destination wedding?  Oh, me likey!

P.S. -  I am not sure if you are familiar with sailfish, but they are truly amazing fish.  Not only do they have amazing jumping skills and swim at speeds up to 70 mph, but they also appear in bunches of beautiful colors, and can change their colors almost instantly!  (Oh my brother-in-law, Wayne, would be so proud of me right now...talking fish!  Wouldn't he Cole?)

Homemade: Roped In

Aye, aye, aye - what a week this has been.  All week I have felt like I have been a day late and a dollar short!  And while I had the very best intentions of getting a sweet homemade project put together for you - a variety of events have happened that have just put me behind schedule, and left me without time to do so.

So please forgive me for not creating my own homemade post for you today.  However, here is an easy (really only two items needed) DIY project that I am adoring right now.  How about a simple display of rope in glass vases...
Wedding
I can't help but think that they would make fabulous centerpieces!  I would love to see this type of decor at a beach/lake wedding.  It's simple, elegant and not blue.  The calm color palette of neutral, natural colors would look wonderful by the water - allowing the beach/lake to take center stage.  However, a hint (key word here) of baby blue here and there would look lovely with this neutral color palette.

And with a couple other decorations such as the shell above, some vintage books or prints, flowers in white and cream, and lots of candles - your tables would be oh so dreamy.

P.S. - I will be back on track next week with my own Tuesday Thought and Homemade project for you...so be on the lookout for them!

~ tuesday thought: shell filled frame centerpiece ~

Hi loves!  It's that time again.  Yep, for your Tuesday Thought.  This weekend with the weather being so nice, the dynamic duo, Aleah and Nick, of Valley & Co. (you must check out their fabulous blog) who are just so supportive and sweet, tweeted a picture from the beach.  And oh how I wished I was there.

But it got me thinking...how could I bring a little beach to me while I am stuck inside working on projects?  And taking a look around at the disaster I had created on the back patio (normally I am pretty organized), I found just the elements I needed for a cute DIY project for you today.  This is what I created to bring a little beach into my world...
Shell-Frame-DIY-1a
And I think this shell filled frame would make darling centerpieces for a beach wedding, don't you? Or a beach inspired bridal shower!

So are you ready to get crafty with me?  If so, here is what you need for this project:
Homemade
  1. A picture frame (that has some depth to it)
  2. Shells
  3. Foam core board
  4. Rotary cutter
  5. Heavy duty tape (I used packaging tape but I forgot to put it in the picture)
  6. 3 small bottles (these are from Beverly's for $1.29 each)
  7. White sand
  8. Funnel (to get the sand into the bottles easily)
  9. Small fresh blooms
Here are some of the details...
Homemade
Using the rotary cutter, cut a piece of foam core to fit the closet edge to the back of the frame.  This will allow you space to hold the shells and bottles.  Once the piece is cut, place into the frame...
Homemade
...and then use the tape to hold it in place.  (The picture above I had to mess with the colors in order for you to see the foam core board without a huge white spot and I hadn't added the tape yet.)  Next, flip the frame over.  You will notice the space between the foam core and the top inside edge of the frame...
Homemade
...this is to hold the shells and bottles in.  Place your bottles where you would like them (you could always use a couple of glue dots to adhere them to make sure they won't tip over if the table is bumped or an earthquake happens...yes, I try and think of everything!)...
Homemade
Once the bottles are where you want them, then add the shells...
Homemade
Remove the corks if they have them, and add the sand...
Homemade
Lastly, add the flowers and some water...
Homemade
...and viola!  A pretty centerpiece that is perfect for a beach wedding, a beach inspired bridal shower, an event or just around the house.

And you know me...there are lots of other options that I thought about...painting the frame a color, using beach glass instead of shells...play around and see what you create!

Don't forget to be sure to see my Homemade post on Thursday.  This week is the tutorial for how to make the fabulous wood block puzzles I created for my guest post on The Loveliest Day...plus I will show you another way or two on how they can be used.

~ fabulous new year's eve ~

If you are looking for me, this is where I am (in my dreams)...
Sweet Escape
A secret little spot that can't be found.  It is a fabulously warm locale without anything to distract me from relishing in the last moments of 2010 and anticipating what 2011 has to bring.  With all the crazy that has been the last couple of months, there is no place I would rather be on New Year's Eve than on a sunny beach with no iPhone, laptop, traffic, noise, television - nothing but the warm light breeze and the sound of waves lapping on the sand.  And all that I need to enjoy this day is...
Day-at-the-Beach
...a white bikini, a pair of sunglasses and a cute kaftan.  After I have had my fill of sun and sand today, stillness and quiet will continue this evening.  A homemade dinner cooked for two, eaten outside as the sun sets, with a glass of bubbly and a silk tunic dress to get me in the mood to dance under the stars with no music but our own...
Fashion
...and without worry of when the new year rings in except for the sun rising in the morning to tell us it has arrived!

Where ever you are and who ever you are with (alone is good too) may you remember that the new year brings a new start, a fresh beginning, a time for you to do what you have always wanted to do.  This is the year for you...may you relish in all that it has to bring and be thankful, that yet again, you have another year to do it in.  The slate has been wiped clean - it's time to create your own masterpiece.  Whatever that masterpiece may be!

Happy New Year my dear friends - I wish you your dreams!  See you next year.  Mwah!!!

xoxo,
Kristi

~ tuesday shoesday #4: braids for the beach ~

Wow, am I late getting this post up!  Even later when I realized my scheduled post was set for the wrong time - so struggling today.  Sorry about that.

Today has been cold, windy and rainy again, and I have been just chilled to the bone all day.  Can't seem to get warm.  So I have been thinking of sunny, warm tropical places to try and warm me up - not working so far...but I did find a fabulous little pair of sandals to wear for a beachy/tropical wedding!  Have a look-see at these Lanvin thong sandals...

~ homemade: drawer pulls part III ~

Okay, here is the last and final post in this little homemade drawer pull series!  I have just a couple of other options for you.  For a field or farm event, the drawer pulls are being used as place cards.  I spray painted the pulls white and then painted the centers in chalkboard paint...
Homemade
The goat cards are a downloadable template from Pottery Barn.  You can find them here.  I just thought they were cute, and something different!  Plus I added a bonus for you with knobs...used as feet on the slate...
DSC_0347
You can also use them to hold signs, flags, escort cards or whatever...just put a stick in them!

For a wine country, field, rustic event I thought these drawer pulls were quite cute just as details...nothing other than to look pretty!  Can you tell I started to run out of steam?  This is the fourth photo shoot I did...
Wine-Country
And finally, the last option is perfect for the beach.  The drawer pulls acts as a holder here - for flowers, grass...or in this instance spanish moss, which I just love to use for beach events...
Homemade
Just shake out the spanish moss so that all the loose pieces fall out, and then add a touch of hot glue to the back to hold in place.  I realized that even though I only live about an hour from the beach, I don't really have any beach type of decor...hmmmm I'll have to work on that!

Hope you enjoyed all this inspiration!  There are so many ways to use drawer pulls...maybe this will inspire you to use them in another way.  And as always they are great escort cards...but I promised I wouldn't do that again this week...but I did have to mention!

~ peach on the beach ~

Wedding
I really like the idea of keeping a neutral color pallette for a beach wedding...and this picture above is a great example of how spectacular it could look!

I'm imagining a table with a white tablecloth and sand colored linen runner, white napkins, shiny silverware, lots of glasses filled with peach roses, a couple starfish here and there (not too many), lots of candles and a chandelier!  And the cake...I'm seeing an all white one with buttercream frosting with just one or maybe a couple peach roses on top (like the simple cakes I posted here).  It all would be simple, classic and elegant.

What's your favorite color palette for a beach wedding?

~ beach grass + moss ~

As I mentioned last week in my ~ swamp thing ~ post on luna and chloe (my other blog), I love the moss that hangs from the trees in Florida.  And with being at the beach yesterday and seeing the grass...I knew the combo would be very cool!  So you could imagine my surprise when I found this picture yesterday with the jar on the left filled with both (granted it's not the tree hanging moss, but it is very similar)...
Wedding
What a great combination the two make!  And I love that it pulls in green as opposed to blue, which is always used with beach weddings.  Simple, sophistication is what I would call this combo...especially when used as centerpieces.  The moss in the jar on the right would be perfect for a woodland, rustic wedding when combined with some other elements...twigs, mushrooms, etc...  And the jars can be found just about anywhere...Target is where I got mine.  And after the wedding the jars are great to have on hand!  I have filled mine with everything from sangria, cookies, utensils, soap...really anything!

~ in the jar ~

Sometimes simple is stunning and special...
Wedding
How perfect are these jars filled with different items?  Rope for a nautical wedding, starfish for a beach wedding and river rocks for a country wedding are simple centerpieces or decor!  What I love about this is the many ways that it can be done - pinecones for a wedding in the hills, colored leaves for a fall wedding...you get the idea.  And since you chose your location because it was a place you loved, why not use some of the surroundings in your decor...making it all the more personal and special.

And since I am at a variety of beaches this week...why not fill an empty water bottle with some white Florida sand from each to take home with me?  I can put them in a pretty jars and place them on the windowsill in my bathroom as a reminder of my trip.  Should have started this a long time ago, and I would have sand from beaches in California all the way to Croatia.  I guess it's never to late to start!  My point, items like these can be incorporated into your wedding.  How cool would it be to use sand from all the beaches you have been to with your man into your wedding?  Taking the starfish and sand jar for example, fill the jar with sand from a particular beach and then you could use the beach name for the table...point reyes, sanddollar, palm beach, horseshoe bay...such pretty names, don't you think?  Or rocks from your favorite river, rope from the ports you have docked in...  Or you can top your favors with some rope, a starfish, a river rock, a pinecone or some fall leaves!  All little details that make it extra special.  Hope you all have a Happy Weekend!  I'm off to the beach to collect some sand.  See you Monday.

...you can't have a surfboard at your wedding?
Who Says...
Especially one with your names and wedding date on it!  Love the personal detail!  I am also adoring the simplicity of the lace tied to sticks below.  So easy to make, and great for any location!  But what gets me is how pretty are they blowing in the breeze.  Love when there is movement...
Wedding
And if you remember, last week I had posted a boat with lace sails(which you can see here), well you could image how thrilled I was to find these pictures last night!  Lace by the water - absolutely!

P.S. -  I am on my way to Florida today, to see my new little nephew for the first time.  I will try and post everyday...but it is vacation!  Anyhow, don't be surprised if you see more beachy type of posts in the next week or so...I'm sure I will have lots of inspiration!
